Scarlet macaw numbers have greatly reduced in Mexico due to habitat loss and poaching of eggs, chicks and live birds for the illegal pet trade.
This paper analyzed the evolution of a community-based effort to conserve the Central Pacific Scarlet Macaw (Ara macao) population in Costa Rica.
